The noisy 2.0 TDI PD engine was replaced by a smoother TDI CR engine (the CR stands for common rail) while a great little chain cam 1.4 TSI with water cooled turbo was also introduced. These combine to make the Octavia an even better value proposition, but if you're looking to really keep running costs down, then the Greenline model is the one

With the 1.4TSI, VW Canada wasn’t able to keep the 2016 Jetta’s base price under $15,000, but they did keep it under $16,000. The 2016 VW Jetta Trendline starts at $15,995 with a standard five-speed manual transmission and $17,395 with optional six-speed automatic (plus a Freight and PDI charge of $1,605, up from $1,395 in 2015).

The 1.4-litre TSI has always been a smooth lump, and it's no different in the Eos. It's the twin-charger engine, using both a supercharger and turbocharger, to generate 158bhp and 177lb ft, so the
EA211 1.5 TSI Engine Problems and Reliability. The 1.5 TSI is defiantly more reliable compared to the 1.4 TSI EA111 engine. Most of common 1.4 TSI problems were eliminates in the next 1.4 TSI engine of the EA211 family. Now, the 1.5 TSI is based on huge experience in the engineering and production of small turbocharged gasoline engines.
Disappointed overall. After 5 years with a fantastic reliable, robust and economical Octavia which returned mid 50 mpg I decided to go with the Rapid this time. Note the 1.4 TSI is no longer
I'd go for a twin charged 1.4 tsi engine epersonally because I like weird things but if you're looking for reliability between the two I'd go for the newest 1.4 I could get, the 1.2 is just a 3 cylinder version of the 1.4 iirc so they normally have similar issues but the 1.4 especially in the larger cars doesn't work as hard because of its higher torque output so I'd go with that.
